Ford vehicles may use two different security systems:
Perimeter Anti-Theft Alarm: Activates the horn and exterior lights when unauthorized entry is detected.
SecuriLock Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS): Prevents the engine from starting unless the vehicle recognizes a correctly programmed key.
There is no single reset procedure that works for every Ford model and year. Always check the vehicle’s owner’s manual before performing any procedure.
1. Disarming the Anti-Theft Alarm
Try one of the following official methods:
Press the Unlock button on the programmed key fob.
Unlock the vehicle using the SecuriCode keypad, if equipped.
Turn on the ignition or start the vehicle with a programmed key.
Unlock the driver’s door with the mechanical key and switch on the ignition within approximately 12 seconds.
Pressing the panic button may stop the horn and flashing lights, but it may not fully disarm the alarm. Ford anti-theft alarm instructions
2. Resetting a Ford That Will Not Start
If the security indicator flashes rapidly or the dashboard displays messages such as “No Key Detected,” “Starting System Fault,” or “Anti-Theft System Fault,” follow these steps:
Place the transmission in Park.
Switch the ignition completely off.
Remove other keys, metallic objects and electronic devices from the Ford key.
Wait about one minute.
Try starting the vehicle again with the programmed key.
If it does not start, try the second programmed key.
For a push-button vehicle, place the key fob in the designated backup key slot and try again. The slot location varies by model.
Check the vehicle’s 12-volt battery. Low voltage can cause key-recognition and electronic-system problems.
Replace the key-fob battery if the remote functions are weak or unreliable.

3. Programming a Replacement Key
Some Ford vehicles allow owner programming when two previously programmed keys are available:
Insert the first programmed key.
Turn the ignition from OFF to ON for 3–10 seconds.
Switch it off and remove the key.
Within 3–10 seconds, insert the second programmed key.
Turn the ignition on for 3–10 seconds.
Switch it off and remove the second key.
Within 3–20 seconds, insert the new key.
Turn the ignition on for at least six seconds.
Remove the key and test it.
The procedure varies by vehicle. Follow the model-specific manual before attempting it. Ford key-programming instructions
When Professional Service Is Required
Contact a Ford dealer or qualified automotive locksmith when:
Neither programmed key starts the vehicle.
All programmed keys have been lost.
The security light continues flashing rapidly.
The system displays an anti-theft or starting-system fault.
The ignition cylinder, key reader, body control module or powertrain control module has been replaced.
An aftermarket remote-start system is installed.
If no programmed key remains, proof of identity and vehicle ownership may be required. The vehicle may also need to be towed to a dealer. Ford replacement-key guidance
Important Warning
Disconnecting the battery, pulling fuses or leaving the ignition on for a fixed period is not a universal Ford anti-theft reset. These methods may fail, erase settings or create additional diagnostic problems. SecuriLock cannot normally be cleared by a simple button sequence when the vehicle does not recognize any authorized key.
