If your Ford is equipped with a SecuriCode keyless-entry keypad, you can usually delete previously programmed personal entry codes and create a new one. The exact procedure may vary by model year, but the following method applies to many Ford vehicles.
Reset or Change the Ford Door Code
First, locate the vehicle’s original 5-digit factory-set entry code. Enter the factory code on the driver-side door keypad. Within five seconds, press the 1·2 button. Enter the new 5-digit personal code you want to use, then press 1·2 again to save it as the first personal entry code. The vehicle may lock and unlock the doors to confirm that the new code has been successfully programmed.
Some Ford models allow several personal codes to be stored. After entering a new code, 1·2 typically saves Personal Code 1, 3·4 saves Personal Code 2, 5·6 saves Personal Code 3, 7·8 saves Personal Code 4, and 9·0 saves Personal Code 5.
How to Erase Personal Door Codes
To remove previously programmed personal codes, enter the factory 5-digit code on the keypad. Within five seconds, press and release 1·2, then press and hold 1·2 for approximately two seconds. On many Ford models, this deletes the stored personal entry codes.
The factory-set code is different from a personal code. The original factory code normally cannot be erased or permanently changed. Instead, Ford allows owners to add or remove personal codes while keeping the factory code as a permanent backup.
Reset the Door Code Through the SYNC System
Some newer Ford vehicles allow keypad settings to be managed through the infotainment system. Depending on the vehicle and SYNC version, open Settings, select Vehicle, then look for options such as Door Keypad Code, Locks, or Keyless Entry Keypad. You may be required to enter the factory code before adding or changing a personal code.
Menu names and available options can differ between models, so vehicles equipped with SYNC 3, SYNC 4, or newer Ford infotainment systems may use slightly different procedures.
What If You Do Not Know the Factory Code?
If the factory code is unknown, check the owner's documentation and the factory wallet card that originally came with the vehicle. Some Ford models also provide a method for displaying the factory keypad code in the instrument cluster when two programmed intelligent-access keys are available.
On certain vehicles, the factory code may also be printed on a label attached to an interior electronic module, but the module location varies by Ford model and model year. Accessing interior modules solely to locate the code is generally unnecessary if the code can be retrieved using the vehicle's approved key procedure.
If the code still cannot be located, a Ford dealer may be able to retrieve the factory keyless-entry code after verifying vehicle ownership.
Important Notes
Do not repeatedly enter random keypad combinations if you have forgotten the code. Ford keypads may temporarily disable input after several incorrect attempts. Also remember that resetting a personal keypad code does not normally erase the permanent factory code.
For the most accurate procedure, use instructions specific to your vehicle's model year. For example, the process for a Ford F-150, Explorer, Escape, Expedition, Edge, Bronco, or Maverick can differ depending on the generation and installed security system.
