If your Ford Maverick touchscreen is frozen, black, slow, or not responding, try a soft reset first. Ford Mavericks can use different SYNC versions depending on model year and equipment; Ford’s 2025 Maverick support materials reference SYNC 4, while 2024 Maverick support includes SYNC 3 guidance.
1. Soft Reset the Ford Maverick Screen
This is the best first step because it reboots the infotainment system without performing a factory reset.
Start the Maverick or switch the ignition to accessory mode.
Locate the Power/Volume button for the audio system.
Locate the Seek Right / Next Track (>>|) button.
Press and hold Power + Seek Right simultaneously.
Keep holding them for approximately 10 seconds.
Release the buttons when the screen turns off or begins restarting.
Allow SYNC to fully reboot.
Ford specifically recommends holding the Power button in the center of the volume knob and Seek Right for about 10 seconds on vehicles equipped with those controls.
If your Maverick does not have the appropriate Power button on the entertainment controls, Ford lists another reset method: hold Volume Down + Seek Right on the steering-wheel controls for approximately 10 seconds.
2. Power-Cycle the Vehicle
If the Ford Maverick screen is still black or frozen:
Turn the vehicle completely off.
Open the driver's door.
Close the door.
Lock the vehicle.
Wait about two minutes so the infotainment system can completely shut down.
Unlock and restart the Maverick.
Check whether the touchscreen is working normally.
Ford recommends allowing the display to completely power down when troubleshooting certain SYNC problems.
3. Perform a SYNC Master/Factory Reset
Use this only if the normal reboot doesn't solve the problem because a factory reset erases SYNC system settings and returns the system to its factory configuration.
For a SYNC system that provides the option on the touchscreen:
Settings → General → Master Reset
Then:
Select Master Reset.
Read the warning.
Confirm the reset.
Wait for SYNC to restart.
Pair your phone with the Maverick again and reconfigure your preferences.
Ford's SYNC master-reset procedure confirms that system settings are erased and restored to factory defaults.
If the Ford Maverick Screen Is Completely Black
If you cannot access the Settings menu, do not start with a Master Reset. Try the hardware soft reset:
Power/Volume + Seek Right → Hold 10 seconds
or, on vehicles without the appropriate Power button:
Volume Down + Seek Right on the steering wheel → Hold 10 seconds.
If the screen repeatedly goes black even after resetting, the problem may involve the SYNC software, power supply, fuse, wiring, display hardware, or infotainment control module rather than a temporary software freeze. In that situation, further diagnosis is preferable to repeatedly factory-resetting the system.
