The following procedure applies to all 2015 Ford Escape models and trim levels, including:
Ford Escape S
Ford Escape SE
Ford Escape Titanium
2.5L four-cylinder models
1.6L EcoBoost models
2.0L EcoBoost models
Front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive models
Vehicles with a traditional key or push-button start
The 2015 Escape uses Ford’s Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor. After changing the engine oil and oil filter, the system must be manually reset so it can begin calculating the next oil-change interval.
Oil Life Reset Procedure
Park the vehicle safely and shift the transmission into Park.
Make sure the engine is completely turned off.
Switch the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine.
For a vehicle with a traditional ignition key, insert the key and turn it to the ON position. Do not turn it far enough to start the engine.
For a vehicle with push-button start, press the START/STOP button once without pressing the brake pedal. The dashboard warning lights should illuminate, but the engine must remain off.
Press the accelerator pedal and brake pedal fully at the same time.
Continue holding both pedals all the way down.
After approximately three seconds, the information display should show:
Service: Oil Reset in Progress
Keep both pedals fully pressed. Do not release them when the first message appears.
After approximately 25 seconds, the display should show:
Service: Oil Reset Complete
Release both the accelerator and brake pedals.
Switch the ignition off.
Wait approximately 10 seconds, then start the engine normally.
The oil-change warning should no longer appear.
Ford’s official procedure specifies holding the accelerator and brake pedals simultaneously until the reset-complete message appears.
Important Timing Information
The pedals may need to remain fully pressed for approximately 25 seconds. Releasing either pedal too early can cancel the reset.
The sequence is:
About 3 seconds: Oil Reset in Progress
About 25 seconds: Oil Reset Complete
Release pedals only after the completion message appears
Traditional-Key Models
For a 2015 Ford Escape equipped with a regular ignition key:
Turn the key to ON without starting the engine.
Fully press the brake and accelerator pedals together.
Hold both pedals down.
Wait for Oil Reset in Progress.
Continue holding until Oil Reset Complete appears.
Release both pedals.
Turn the key to OFF.
Do not start the engine during the reset procedure.
Push-Button-Start Models
For a 2015 Ford Escape Titanium or another model equipped with Intelligent Access and push-button start:
Keep your foot off the brake pedal.
Press the START/STOP button once to switch the ignition on.
After the dashboard powers up, fully press both the brake and accelerator pedals.
Hold both pedals until Oil Reset Complete appears.
Release the pedals.
Press the START/STOP button again to switch the ignition off.
It is important to keep your foot off the brake when initially pressing the START/STOP button. Pressing the brake while operating the button may start the engine instead of entering ignition-on mode.
If the Oil Reset Message Does Not Appear
Repeat the procedure and check the following:
The engine must not be running.
The ignition must be fully switched on.
The transmission must be in Park.
Both pedals must be pressed completely to the floor.
Both pedals must be pressed at approximately the same time.
Do not release the pedals when Oil Reset in Progress appears.
Continue holding the pedals until Oil Reset Complete appears.
If the engine accidentally starts, turn it off and begin again.
If the Oil-Change Warning Returns
If the oil-change message remains after the reset:
Switch the ignition off.
Wait at least 10 seconds.
Repeat the complete pedal-reset procedure.
Make sure the accelerator and brake pedals remain fully pressed for at least 25 seconds.
Restart the vehicle and check the information display.
If the warning repeatedly returns after a confirmed reset, the vehicle may have an instrument-cluster, pedal-position-sensor, battery-voltage, or oil-life-monitoring system issue.
Important Notes
Only reset the oil-life monitor after the engine oil and oil filter have actually been changed. Resetting it without changing the oil can cause the vehicle to calculate an incorrect maintenance interval.
The oil-life monitor does not directly test the physical condition or oil level. It estimates remaining oil life using operating conditions such as engine temperature, driving time, mileage, engine load, and driving patterns.
The engine oil level should still be checked manually with the dipstick. Resetting the monitor will not correct a low oil level, oil leak, low oil pressure, or mechanical engine problem.
Ford advises resetting the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor after every oil and filter change. The normal maintenance interval must not exceed one year or 10,000 miles, although the system may request service sooner depending on operating conditions
