After completing an oil change on your Ford Focus, the oil life monitoring system must be reset so the vehicle can accurately track the next service interval. The reset method may vary slightly depending on model year, but most modern Ford Focus vehicles use the steering wheel menu system or ignition button sequence.
Method 1: Using the Dashboard Menu (Most Common for 2012+ Models)
Turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine (press start button once without brake).
Use the steering wheel controls to access the main menu on the instrument cluster.
Navigate to Settings.
Select Vehicle or Advanced Settings.
Find Oil Life Reset or Oil Life Remaining.
Press and hold OK until the display shows 100% oil life restored or “reset complete”.
Turn off ignition and restart the engine to confirm reset.
Method 2: Pedal / Ignition Reset (Older Ford Focus Models)
Insert key and turn ignition to ON position (do not start engine).
Fully press both accelerator and brake pedals together.
Hold for about 20–30 seconds until oil light flashes or resets message appears.
Release pedals and turn ignition off.
Start the engine to verify the reset.
Important Notes
Always reset only after a proper oil and filter change.
If the reset does not work, repeat the procedure or check model-specific settings in the infotainment system.
Some newer models may require confirmation via touchscreen SYNC system.
