After changing the engine oil and filter, the Oil Life Monitor on a Ford Escape should be reset so the vehicle can accurately track the next service interval. The procedure varies slightly by model year.
Ford Escape 2020 and Newer
Turn the ignition on without starting the engine. For push-button models, press the START/STOP button without pressing the brake pedal.
Using the steering-wheel controls, open Settings on the instrument cluster.
Select Vehicle.
Select Oil Life or Oil Life Reset.
Press and hold the OK button.
Continue holding it until the display shows Reset Successful, Oil Life Set to 100%, or a similar confirmation.
Turn the ignition off, then restart the vehicle and verify that the oil-change message is gone.
Ford Escape 2013–2019
Many Ford Escape models from this period can be reset using the pedals.
Sit in the vehicle with the doors closed.
Turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine.
Press the accelerator pedal and brake pedal fully at the same time.
Keep both pedals fully depressed.
After several seconds, the instrument panel should display Service: Oil Reset in Progress.
Continue holding both pedals until Service: Oil Reset Complete appears. This can take approximately 20–30 seconds.
Release both pedals and turn the ignition off.
Start the engine and confirm that the oil-change warning no longer appears.
Ford Escape 2008–2012
Depending on the instrument cluster, these models may use the dashboard information controls.
Turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine.
Press the SETUP button until Oil Life or Oil Life = XX% appears.
Press and hold RESET.
Continue holding until the display shows Oil Life Set to 100%.
Turn the ignition off and restart the vehicle.
If the Oil Light Does Not Reset
Make sure the ignition is on but the engine is not running during the reset. On pedal-reset models, the brake and accelerator must usually be pressed completely and held continuously until the confirmation message appears. On newer models, look under Settings, Vehicle, Oil Life because menu wording can vary slightly by trim and instrument cluster.
Resetting the oil-life monitor only clears the maintenance reminder. It does not correct low oil pressure, low oil level, oil leaks, or other engine problems. If a red oil-pressure warning light remains illuminated while the engine is running, shut the engine off and investigate the cause rather than simply resetting the maintenance indicator.
