After changing the engine oil and oil filter, you can reset the Oil Life / Oil Change Required message on most Ford Focus models using the pedals.
Ford Focus Oil Change Reset Procedure
Sit in the vehicle and make sure the engine is off.
Turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine.
With a key: turn it to position II.
With push-button start: press the START/STOP button without pressing the brake or clutch.
Press the accelerator pedal and brake pedal fully down at the same time.
Keep both pedals fully pressed.
After several seconds, the display may show:
Service: Oil Reset in ProgressContinue holding both pedals for approximately 20–30 seconds.
Wait until the display shows:
Service: Oil Reset CompleteRelease both pedals.
Turn the ignition off.
Wait a few seconds, then start the Ford Focus normally.
The Oil Change Required warning should now be cleared.
If the Oil Reset Does Not Work
Make sure the engine is not running during the reset. Both the accelerator and brake pedals must be pressed completely to the floor and held continuously until the confirmation message appears.
If the warning remains, turn the ignition off and repeat the procedure.
Ford Focus Models
This pedal-reset method is commonly used on many Ford Focus model years, particularly 2012–2018 Ford Focus vehicles. Some other model years and international versions may use the instrument-cluster menu instead.
Important: Reset the oil-life monitor only after the engine oil has actually been changed.
