After changing the engine oil and oil filter, you can reset the Ford Transit oil-life monitor. The exact method depends on the model year and instrument cluster.
Method 1: Brake and Accelerator Pedal Reset
This method is used on many Ford Transit models.
Park the Ford Transit and make sure the engine is off.
Switch the ignition to ON, but do not start the engine.
With a key ignition, turn the key to the ON position.
With push-button start, press the Start/Stop button without pressing the brake pedal.
Fully press the accelerator pedal and brake pedal at the same time.
Keep both pedals fully depressed.
After about 3 seconds, the instrument cluster should display a message indicating that the oil reset is in progress.
Continue holding both pedals down.
After approximately 25 seconds, you should see a message such as Oil Reset Complete or Service Oil Reset Complete.
Release both pedals.
Switch the ignition off.
Wait several seconds, then start the engine and confirm that the oil-change warning has disappeared.
Ford's owner-manual procedure specifies holding the accelerator and brake pedals until the reset-complete message appears.
Method 2: Reset Through the Dashboard Menu
Some Ford Transit models, particularly certain diesel versions or vehicles with newer information displays, allow the oil life to be reset through the steering-wheel controls.
Turn the ignition on, then use the dashboard controls to navigate to:
Settings → Convenience → Oil Life Reset
Select Oil Life Reset, then press and hold OK until the instrument cluster confirms that the oil life has been reset.
If the Ford Transit Oil Life Will Not Reset
Make sure the engine is not running during the procedure and that the brake and accelerator pedals are pressed completely. If the pedal method does not work, check the instrument-cluster menu for an Oil Life Reset option.
Also, only reset the oil-life monitor after the engine oil and oil filter have actually been changed, because resetting it does not measure or improve the condition of the oil itself. Ford specifically advises resetting the system only after an oil and filter change.
For the most exact procedure, the Ford Transit model year and engine matter—for example, a 2015 Transit 250, 2020 Transit 350, and newer 2.0L diesel Transit can use different dashboard procedures.
