After changing the engine oil in your 2014 Ford Focus, you can reset the oil life monitoring system using the accelerator and brake pedals. Ford recommends resetting the system only after the engine oil has been changed.
2014 Ford Focus Oil Light Reset Steps
Sit in the vehicle and make sure the engine is turned off.
Turn the ignition to the ON position, but do not start the engine.
If your Focus has a traditional key, turn it to the ON position.
The dashboard warning lights should illuminate.
Press the accelerator pedal and brake pedal fully down at the same time.
Keep both pedals completely depressed.
After approximately 3 seconds, the information display should indicate that the oil reset procedure is in progress.
Continue holding both pedals down.
After approximately 25 seconds, the display should confirm that the oil reset has been completed.
Release both pedals.
Turn the ignition OFF.
Wait a few seconds, then start the engine normally.
The oil change/service message should now be cleared.
If the Oil Light Does Not Reset
Try the procedure again and make sure you:
Do not start the engine before beginning.
Press both the brake and accelerator pedals all the way down.
Keep both pedals pressed continuously until the reset-complete message appears.
Do not release the pedals too early.
This procedure resets the oil life monitoring system; it does not fix an actual low oil pressure warning. If the red oil-pressure warning light remains illuminated while the engine is running, shut the engine off and check the oil level or have the vehicle inspected.
